June 13, 2024 -- The manager of a pub on Main Street was killed around midnight Tuesday during a fight that broke out after he asked several patrons to leave, police said.

Police responded to a radio call at 12:05 a.m. reporting a battery that had just taken place outside Jamenson's Pub on the corner of Hill Street and Main.

"Out on the street, one of the patrons punched the manager, causing him to lose consciousness," said Lt. Erika Aklufi, the Police Department spokesperson.

"When the officers arrived on scene, the manager was not breathing," Aklufi said. "Officers administered CPR until the Santa Monica Fire Department arrived and took over lifesaving measures."

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, she said.

The three patrons involved in the incident were initially arrested and booked at the Santa Monica Jail, according to police.

After a "thorough" investigation police identified the individual responsible for punching the victim as Leonard Hector Korpie, a 26-year old Venice resident.

On Wednesday the Los Angeles County District Attorney charged Korpie with homicide, police said. He is being held on $2 million bail.

Anyone with information related to this incident or this individual should email Detective Tavera at Hector.Tavera@santamonica.gov or call the Watch Commander 24 hours at 310-458-8427.
