January 17, 2023 -- A suspected homeless burglar wanted in Arizona for shoplifting was arrested Monday night after breaking into a guest house in an exclusive North of Montana Neighborhood.

Police officers were dispatched shortly after 8:30 p.m. to a burglary alarm call at a residence in the 500 block of Marguerita Avenue, according to Santa Monica police.

The homeowner also contacted dispatch after she saw the suspect enter the guest house remotely via security cameras, said Lt. Rudy Flores, the Police Department spokesman.

One minute later, officers arrived at the scene and "set up a containment around the residence," Flores said.

"During the search, officers located the suspect inside the guest house and took him into custody without incident," he said.

"Officers discovered the suspect defeated the sliding glass door to make entry."

The suspect, Hezekiah Campbell, a 27-year-old homeless man, was transported to Santa Monica jail where he was booked for burglary and vandalism.

A records check revealed Campbell is also wanted in Arizona for shoplifting, Flores said.

Anyone with any additional information about the suspect or incident should call SMPD Detective Buus at 310-458- 8943 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8426.
