By Lookout Staff August 9, 2023 -- Music lovers can spend the rest of the summer weekends enjoying world and American roots music and the talents of local youth in two Santa Monica parks, City officials announced this week. Endless Summer C.A.M.P. (Community|Art|Music|Picnic) -- which showcases music from Brazil, Cuba, Latin America and Hawaii -- will be held in Tongva Park on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from August 19 through September 9. And every Sunday in September from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Gandara Park will host the third season of Americana in the Park, which "explores Americana styles from its roots to modern forms," organizers said. "Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, blanket and beach chairs" to both events, organizers said. The series in Tongva Park includes a performance by Grammy-award-winning artist Daniel Ho, as well as local youth performing orchestral and chamber music, Balkan music, Hawaiian dance and Ballet Folklorico at each concert. "Hands-on craft workshops celebrating the park’s plants and world traditions enhance the day’s activities," organizers said. Tongva Park’s amenities include a splash pad, playground, ocean observation deck, public art and more than 100 species of plants. The Sunday series in Gandara Park, which is co-produced by McCabe’s Guitar Shop and the City, features jazz, blues, alt-country, folk/pop, ska and roots electric folk rock groups. There also will be a variety of food trucks and a McCabe’s Guitar Pop-Up Shop, organizers said. “I’m thrilled to see these free events enliven the public parks that are part of the fabric of Santa Monica,” said Mayor Gleam Davis. “I’m looking forward to seeing our community enjoy the arts, support our youth, and connect with one another.” For a full schedule click here |
