By Lookout Staff December 3, 2019 -- As a winter storm blows in and temperatures begin to drop, Santa Monica's homeless can take shelter in Los Angeles. Starting December 1, homeless individuals can spend the night in the winter shelter at the West Los Angeles Armory, 1300 Federal Avenue, in Los Angeles. The armory is the nearest of the shelters run by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority until March 31. Free transportation is available from the Venice Skate Park, 1800 Ocean Front Walk in Venice, at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The times can vary depending on traffic. Winter shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis to single adults. Families with minor children in need of shelter should call 211. Those concerned about someone experiencing homelessness in their neighborhood can visit la-hop.org and a local homeless outreach team will check in with that person. For more information about finding winter shelter and the full winter shelter list in Los Angeles County, click here or call the 24-hour Winter Shelter Hotline at (800) 548-6047.
