Go Green - Ride Blue, What Does Sustainable Transit Mean to You?

Children generally have little difficulty expressing themselves through art, and this contest brings together hundreds of our most talented young people in celebration of the Earth. This, the fortieth anniversary of Earth Day, is going to be special with an awards celebration at the beach to remember. There will be galleries of participating works on and in Big Blue Busses, entertainment and more.

The second annual Earth Day Student Poster Contest is intended to raise awareness of Santa Monica's Sustainable City Plan and this year's theme highlights one of the goal areas- sustainable transportation.

As leaders of the next generation, we want to see your thoughts and ideas expressed through art about clean air, climate change, healthier lifestyles and sustainable transportation. How can we ditch the car and use more sustainable transportation options such as walking, biking, carpooling and riding the Big Blue Bus?

Deadline for artwork submittals - Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

Ceremony: All students, their families and teachers will be invited to an Earth Day Celebration on April 22, 2010 at the Santa Monica South Beach Green. Students will be recognized for their artistic contribution. Winning posters and all poster submissions will be displayed and prizes will be awarded.

Awards: 4 Grand Prize Winners will have their poster art displayed on the outside of 4 Big Blue Busses in the king size ad space for a period of one month!! Runner-up winners will have their poster art displayed on the interior of the Big Blue Bus for a period of one month!! Additionally, all winners will receive PRIZES and have their artwork on display at City events and on the City of Santa Monica, Sustainable Works and Big Blue Bus websites.
