Jaycees Celebrate 77 Years of Community Service

The Santa Monica Jaycees will host an elegant gala event – complete with a memorabilia exhibit display – Saturday, October 4 to celebrate the group’s 77th anniversay.

The event, which will take place at the Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel will celebrate the Jaycees’ long history serving the community and developing leadership. The annual Outstanding Young Police Officer award will be presented, as well as the first Community Member Supporter award in memory of Bob Gabriel.

“We often hear how the Jaycees are the ‘best kept secret,’” said Jennifer Baker, president of the Jaycees. “This organization has given me an amazing leadership opportunity and the chance to be a part of something spectacular.

“The best part of this event will be sharing fond memories and creating new ones with our fellow Alumni, Jaycees, and Friends,” Baker said.

Since its founding in 1931, the Santa Monica Jaycees have created and participated in an array of community events, such as Miss Santa Monica beauty pageants, Bed Races to benefit Meals on Wheels, beach clean-ups, the Distinguished Service Award, the Santa Monica Auto Show, Huck Finn Day and Peter Rabbit Day.

The Santa Monica Jaycees’ vision is to give the young an opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills through local community service and organizational involvement.
