September 15, 2026 -- Lincoln Middle School celebrated a milestone in its transformation into a modern learning environment with the reopening Thursday of the newly modernized Legacy Building, District officials said.
The modernization includes nine new math, science and general education classrooms, a new Innovation Lab supporting STEM and project-based learning and covered outdoor learning areas that "extend opportunities for instruction and collaboration beyond the traditional classroom," officials said.
It also includes updated interiors and finishes, improved natural light and flexible learning spaces "designed to support current teaching practices."
“This building has been an important part of Lincoln for many years, and now it has been transformed into a modern learning environment for a new generation of students,” Lincoln Middle School Principal Dr. Jose Cuevas said in a statement.
“But what makes this building special isn’t just what you see. It’s what will happen here: students learning, collaborating, creating and discovering new interests.”
The updated classrooms and flexible learning spaces "are designed to support a range of instructional approaches," while the Innovation Lab provides a dedicated space for STEM and project-based learning, officials said.
“Today is a great reminder that when we invest in our schools, we’re investing in our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton. “But a building is only part of the equation. It’s our teachers, staff, families and students who will bring these spaces to life.”
The modernization represents "a significant investment in the Lincoln community and reflects the District’s commitment to creating engaging spaces that support student learning and collaboration," officials said.
Additional campus improvements are planned as part of the District’s ongoing investment in Lincoln Middle School, officials said. A new approximately 5,000-square-foot playground is planned for this fall, and Main Building improvements are scheduled to begin next summer.
