April 14, 2026 -- Youngsters who have ditched their training wheels can practice their bicycle skills before hitting neighborhood streets for National Bike Month in May.
In preparation for Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! Week from May 4 to 8, the City and the non-profit Walk ’n Rollers will host a free Bike Rodeo and Bike Skills Workshop for all students on Sunday, April 19.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the basketball courts at Lincoln Middle School, 1501 California Avenue, City officials said.
"This fun, hands-on event will give students the opportunity to practice important biking skills in a safe and supportive environment," event organizers said.
"Participants will rotate through interactive skill stations where they can practice starting and stopping, signaling, maneuvering around obstacles, and learning basic traffic safety tips for riding in their neighborhood."
Bikes and helmets will be provided while supplies last, "so students can participate even if they don’t have their own equipment."
"Staff will be on hand to guide students through the activities and help them build confidence riding on two wheels," organizers said.
There will also be free helmet giveaways and other activities for participants, while supplies last.
"Whether you’re just learning to ride or already enjoy biking around the neighborhood, this event is a great way to build confidence and develop safe riding habits while getting ready for National Bike Month!"
Walk ’n Rollers, which held its 14th annual festival last month, aims "to educate, train and encourage people of all ages to walk and ride their bikes more often, especially to and from school," according to the group's website.
