Volley-Ween Returns to the Beach

By Lookout Staff

October 20, 2025 -- The fourth annual Volley-Ween Beach BBQ Mixer, to rally support for local nonprofits will be held on October 29, tourism officials announced.

The event will once again feature a beach volleyball tournament and costume contest that local businesses and residents can take part in or cheer from the sidelines.

The festivities will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at Perry's Café and Beach Rentals at 2400 Ocean Front Walk.

“Each year, we eagerly anticipate the Volley-Ween fundraiser as a way to unite our community and support local nonprofits in need,” said Misti Kerns, President/CEO of Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (SMTT).

“Whether you're a competitive player or cheering from the sidelines, we invite Santa Monica residents and businesses to take part in this entertaining event for a meaningful cause.”

In attendance this year will be 1996 Olympian Sinjin Smith, a two-time World Champion and International Volleyball Hall of Fame inductee, and his son Hagen Smith, who placed first at both the Association of Volleyball Professionals and the International Volleyball Federation in 2023.

Teams of two, four and six at all skill levels are invited to compete in the tournament on the sands where the city’s first permanent beach volleyball nets were installed in the early 1920s, while the sport was still a new phenomenon.

Today Santa Monica is home to dozens of courts and beach volleyball clubs across the city, including those at Annenberg Community Beach House.

In addition to the tournament and costume contest prizes, the event offers entertainment, food and drinks and games. Registration is required to attend the event and participate in the tournament with an entry fee of $35 per person.

Last year, teams of super heroes and other imaginary characters helped raise $7,500 for local non-profits during the annual fundraiser.
