LA Police Recover Stolen Cargo in Local Warehouse

By Lookout Staff

October 8, 2025 -- On Thursday, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives recovered an estimated $500,000 worth of stolen train cargo -- including unreleased Nike shoes -- in a Santa Monica warehouse, police officials announced Tuesday.

The recovered cargo included more than 2,100 pairs of stolen Nike shoes and 150 cartons of various Nike clothing police located inside the business in the 1700 block of Stewart Street, officials said.

Police served a search warrant at the property and arrested Adeel Shams, 34, a Los Angeles resident who owns Coolkicks, "a popular online store specializing in the reselling of limited-edition sneakers and apparel," police said.

Shams was arrested at the scene and booked at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center for receiving stolen property.

According to KTLA, authorities said the raid "coincided with an online sneaker auction that Shams was live-streaming.

"In the video, he appeared visibly surprised and initially asked whether the incident was a 'swatting' hoax, a type of prank that can prompt a police response," KTLA reported.

Shams was released from custody Friday according to Los Angeles County jail records, NBC Los Angeles reported. An initial court appearance was scheduled for October 23.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Coolkicks said the company did not know the products were stolen when they were purchased.

"The LAPD impounded a small allotment of Nike sneakers that Coolkicks purchased and received within the last 48 hours, alleging that the merchandise was stolen," the statement said.

"This news came as a complete shock to our entire team,” the statement said. "Neither Coolkicks' leadership, nor our staff had any knowledge or reason to believe that these products were stolen.

"We entered into this purchase in good faith, as we always have, committed to running an honest business built on integrity and trust," Coolkicks wrote.

LAPD said the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected.

The operation was conducted by detectives from LAPD's Commercial Crimes Division, Cargo Theft Unit, in collaboration with the Union Pacific Railroad Police, LA Port Police, LA World Airport Police and the LA County District Attorney’s Office's Bureau of Investigation.

"This case underscores the importance of interagency collaboration in combating large-scale cargo theft and preserving the integrity of commercial supply chains," LAPD said in a statement.
