November 12, 2025 -- The driver of a stolen work truck towing a trailer was arrested on PCH after being involved in multiple traffic collisions, police officials said Monday.

The incident began Sunday at around 2:30 p.m. when police Officers responded to a reported stolen vehicle in the area of 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue near the heart of the Promenade.

The driver -- identified as Walter Albert Fernandez, 40, from Santa Clarita -- fled in the stolen white Ford F-550 work truck and is suspected of driving impaired, according to SMPD spokesman Lt. Lewis Gilmour.

"As the investigation unfolded, officers learned the suspect was involved in multiple non-injury traffic collisions as he continued northbound on Pacific Coast Highway," Gilmour said.

Regional law enforcement partners were notified and helped with the arrest after Fernandez "was subsequently involved in a collision near Big Rock Drive in Los Angeles County."

The suspect "abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot toward the shoreline," where SMPD officers, with support from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, took him into custody without further incident, Gilmour said.

"Impairment is suspected and will be part of the ongoing investigation," according to Gilmour.

"Initial reports that the suspect may have been armed were later determined to be unfounded," he said.
