The stabbings took place after a "verbal altercation" on the sidewalk outside The Bungalow, part of the luxury hotel facing Palisades Park, according to police.
"We do not have any information indicating that the victims or suspects were guests or employees of the Hotel," said Lt. Lewis Gilmour, the Police Department spokesperson.
"However, as part of our investigation, we are exploring whether they were patrons of The Bungalow prior to the incident."
Officers responding to a report at 1:50 a.m. of a stabbing in the 100 block of Wilshire Boulevard found two male victims "suffering stab wounds," Gilmour said.
Personnel from the Police and Fire Departments provided immediate medical aid before Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital.
One of he victims, 31-year-old Oscar Alfredo Gonzalez from Santa Maria, sustained critical injuries, and despite life-saving efforts "later succumbed to his wounds," Gilmour said.
The second victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspects were identified as Alfredo Quintero, 41, and Ricardo Quintero, 42, who are charged with homicide, and Rogelio Arenas, 32, who is charged as an accessory. The three are being held on no bail.
Detectives identified and arrested the three suspects after "a thorough investigation using a combination of surveillance footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence," Gilmour said.
Police officials declined to disclose specific details about the investigative methods used "due to the ongoing nature of the case," Gilmour said.
"This remains an active investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence," he said.
Saturday's fatal stabbing marked the third homicide in Santa Monica this year.
