December 1, 2025 -- Santa Monica residents have one week to help create a card game celebrating the city's 150th anniversary by submitting a drawing or picture for the deck.
The game -- called Santa Monica: A Game of Connections -- features "people, places and events or objects of significance to Santa Monica from its past, present and future," City officials said.
"The finished game will ask players to make connections between cards and through those connections tell a new story of Santa Monica."
The "game jam" allows people of "all levels of experience to unite to create games on a theme," according to officials at Cultural Affairs, which has partnered with Indiecade, the independent games festival.
Participants are asked to write a few words and draw or find a picture to illustrate a playing card on the topic of Santa Monica by December 7.
"This brief and fun activity is perfect for armchair historians, urban dreamers and all of us who have a connection to Santa Monica to express our knowledge," cultural officials said.
Residents of all ages can submit as many cards as they like and parents or guardians can upload the cards for youth.
Submissions can be made online accompanied by a form for every card contributed. For a submission form click here.
Card forms can also be picked up in-person at City Hall, the Main Library and the Farmers Market info booth. Printed submission materals can be dropped off at City Hall.
A giant playtest of the prototype will take place Saturday, December 13 at 11 a.m. at the Miles Playhouse. The final components will be selected based on the playtest and become part of the final game.
The game will be shared at the celebration on the Promenade at celebrating150.com.
