July 8, 2023 -- Two teenage girls were shot by a lone gunman at a large party near the southern border of Santa Monica beach Friday night, according to police.
The teenagers -- 14- and 17-year-olds from Los Angeles -- were transported to local hospitals for treatment," said Lt. Erika Aklufi, the Police Department spokesperson.
Neither of the wounds were life-threatening," Aklufi said. "The victims did not see who fired the weapon or which direction the person fled."
The shootings took place as multiple officers were responding at around 9:20 p.m. to a call reporting a large party in the 2700 block of the Santa Monica beach.
"As they were approaching, officers heard multiple gun shots and the group scattered, including the shooter," Aklufi said.
Witnesses described the single shooter as a Black male, 5-1 in height of an unknown age or build, police said.
He had dreadlocks and was wearing black pants, a white shirt and a black hat.
The subject did not appear to be homeless, Aklufi said.
