June 7, 2022 -- A resident of an apartment building in the Pico Neighborhood was hospitalized Thursday night after a fire broke out in a second-floor unit.
Firefighters responded to multiple calls reporting the fire at the building on the 2300 block of Kansas Avenue.
"Upon arrival, Firefighters encountered a two-story apartment building with one unit on the second floor well involved with fire," said Capt. Patrick Nulty, the Fire Department spokesman.
"Firefighters quickly worked to attack the blaze and prevent it from extending to adjacent apartments while rapidly searching and evacuating the building," Nulty said.
It took firefighters less than 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, which was "confined to the unit of origin, with only minor damage to other units," Nulty said.
One resident was treated by Paramedics and transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained from the fire, he said.
Police Officers and Firefighters also rescued two cats from a neighboring apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
