September 22, 2021 -- Police are searching for two suspects involved in the shooting of a man in Ocean Park during a possible carjacking early Wednesday.

The incident -- which took place at around 3 a.m. -- prompted multiple calls to the Santa Monica Public Safety Dispatch Center reporting shots fired in the area of Ocean Avenue and Pacific Street, police said.

"A subsequent call was received from a male stating he had been shot in the face during a possible carjacking," said Sgt. Erika Aklufi.

"The victim stated he was asleep in his car when two possible suspects approached his vehicle," Aklufi said.

"The suspects demanded the victim provide the keys to the vehicle, abruptly shot him, and possibly fled in an unknown vehicle and unknown direction at a high rate of speed."

Officers located the victim, and he was transported to a local area hospital where is is recovering in stable condition, police said.

The suspects remain and large, and police continue to gather evidence related to the incident.

The shooting took place several blocks from where police arrested two suspected prowlers who broke onto an Ocean Park property early Monday near Mary Hotchkiss Park ("Two Prowlers Arrested in Ocean Park," September 22, 2021).
