November 18, 2021 -- A motorist was shot at on Pico Boulevard while chasing the car of a suspect who robbed him at gun point Monday, police said.

The robbery took place at around 2 p.m. when the victim parked his vehicle in the 2600 block of 34th Street and a black sedan stopped in front of him, police said.

"The front passenger of that vehicle walked to the victim’s vehicle, pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s cellphone and wallet," said Lt. Rudy Flores, the Police Department spokesman.

"Fearing for his life, the victim gave him both," Flores said. "The suspect returned to his vehicle and fled."

The victim then followed behind the suspect vehicle -- described as a "newer black Nissan Versa (or similar) 4 door sedan with dark tinted windows, black and chrome wheels," he said.

"While traveling eastbound on Pico Boulevard the suspect leaned out the passenger side window and fired multiple rounds at the victim.

"The victim continued to follow until the suspects were last seen driving eastbound on the I-10 freeway on-ramp at Centinela Avenue," Flores said.

Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) detectives were able to obtain stills of video footage from businesses and a residence in the area, police said.

"In one of the photos you can see the suspect leaning out of the passenger side door and shooting at the victim," Flores said.

The passenger is described as a Male White or Hispanic in his late twenties with straight shoulder-length brown hair and brown or grey eyes, police said.

He was wearing a hoodie and a black bandana that covered the lower half of his face, police said. There is no description of the driver.

Police advise victims of a serious crime to not follow the suspect.

"It is important that we remind our community that we do not encourage anyone to endanger themselves further by trying to follow or chase a suspect involved in a serious crime," Flores said.

"We ask that they focus on being a good witness and try to obtain a detailed description of the vehicle and parties involved then immediately contact the police for assistance."
