May 20, 2021 -- Police are searching for a suspect responsible for burglarizing at least seven Santa Monica businesses during working hours, according to a bulletin issued by the Department Thursday.

The suspect -- described as a thin Black male in his 20s with short dreadlocks and a thin mustache -- enters through an open rear door during business hours and steals property from "employees only" areas, police said.

Items stolen include and wallets and cell phones, said Police Department Spokesman Lt. Rudy Flores.

The suspect has targeted "restaurants, clothing stores, nail salons, hotels, and medical offices along Wilshire Boulevard, Montana Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard," Flores said.

He wears "a colorful backpack with Bart Simpson graphic print, green camouflage hoodie, black “Puma” long sleeve hoodie, gray pants with black stripes and blue bandanna with circular patterns," according to police.

SMPD's Community Affairs Unit -- which consists of Crime Prevention Coordinators and Neighborhood Resource Officers (NRO)-- has been communicating with Santa Monica's business sector, Flores said.

The unit has been focusing on businesses in the Wilshire and Montana Corridors and providing information on how to protect their businesses, he said.

Police will "continue to share this information until this suspect is located and arrested," Flores said.

Anyone with information about the burglar should call Det. P. Zamfirov at 310-458-8398, Sgt. C. Green at (310) 458-8414, or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at (310) 458-2249.

Anyone who sees the suspect in public should call police dispatch at 310-458-8491 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
