March 3, 2021 -- The City launched a survey this week to gather information from Santa Monica workers about their transportation and housing needs.
The information is gathered every eight years to help the City understand "how workers travel and their housing preferences," planning officials said.
The survey gathers race and income demographics of Santa Monica’s workforce used to prepare the City's Housing Element update that is now underway.
“Through the survey, we want to understand how much Santa Monica workers pay for housing, and what housing types they’d be interested in if they moved here,” said Planning Manager Jing Yeo, who is leading the effort to update the Housing Element.
The City is especially interested in hearing from front-line and essential workers in such industries as food services, hospitality, grocery stores and health care, Yeo said.
Information will be kept confidential, and reports will not identify the names of individuals or their travel patterns.
