December 17, 2021 -- Five men in their early twenties were arrested early Wednesday after going on a midnight vandalism spree along the Promenade, police said.

Police were dispatched to the area of Third Street and Arizona Avenue at 12:04 a.m. after the group was spotted walking down the popular street destroying property, police said.

The men were "uprooting city-owned trees, damaging and breaking holiday decorations, as well as fencing belonging to a business," said Lt. Rudy Flores, the Police Department spokesman.

The officers located and detained the five men, whose actions were captured by Promenade security cameras, Flores said.

The cost of the damage is estimated to be approximately $5,000, Flores said.

Arrested and booked for felony vandalism were four 21-year-old males from Los Angeles -- Shane Thomas Barry, Zachary Lawrence, William Ian Lawrence and Mark Andrew Sapper -- and Aiden Metzner, a 22-year-old male also from Los Angeles.

Anyone with additional information pertaining to this incident should call Detective Amersfoort at 310-458-8944 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8426.
