December 8, 2021 -- A Los Angeles jury on Tuesday found a homeless man guilty of raping a Santa Monica woman in her Ocean Park apartment three and a half years ago.

Dylan James Jensen, 42, was found guilty on seven counts, including rape, sexual battery, sodomy, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Santa Monica police arrested Jensen on June 4, 2018 after he entered the victim's apartment in the 2900 block of 4th Street shortly before 6 a.m. and raped her in her bed.

According to police, Jensen entered through an unlocked sliding door of an elevated patio, took a knife from the kitchen and entered the victim’s bedroom while she slept.

The victim awoke and Jensen forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her, police said.

At trial, the victim testified that Jensen covered her mouth with his hands and held the knife to her face, according to a report in the Westside Current.

She repeatedly told the court that she did what she could to survive to "not die," the site reported.

Also testifying in the case was a Los Angeles County psychiatrist who had treated Jensen for his addiction to methamphetamine and depression, according to the report.

Jensen had previous arrests for possession of a controlled substance in 2013 and 2015 and for resisting and obstructing arrest in 2017, according to arrest records.

Jensen, who was held on some $1.59 million in bail, could face up to 25 years to life in state prison.

The next phase of the trial is expected to begin next month, when the court will determine if Jensen was sane when he committed the rape.
