August 24, 2021 -- There are plenty of job openings in Santa Monica -- from ice cream scooper to lawyer -- and the City is helping residents apply.

Santa Monica's estimated 4,000 unemployed residents can job hunt and apply for a wide array of positions listed at santamonica.gov/hirelocal.

"Local employers have an immediate need for part- and full-time staff due to hiring challenges that are happening nationally resulting from COVID-19," City officials said.

"The open positions include a wide range of expertise and interest areas and many are available for immediate hire throughout the city," officials said.

The local employers include non profits, such as the Broad Stage, which is looking for shift supervisors and artistic associates, and private companies, such as Surf City Tours, which is looking for guides.

A sampling of openings currently posted also include:

  • Guest Services Agents at Hostelling International of Santa Monica

  • Ice Cream Scooper at Soda Jerks on the Pier

  • Early Childhood Education Teachers at the YMCA

  • Counsel for Gorman & Miller, a law corporation

  • Operations Manager at 18th Street Art Center

  • Lifeguards and Crossing Guards at the City of Santa Monica

  • Leasing and Maintenance professionals at Align Residential

  • Sales Associates at Femelle on Montana

  • Hostess at Casa Martin

The job listings are updated on a biweekly basis and a biweekly email is sent to more than 800 interested job seekers, according to City officials.

Local employers can also visit the website to add job openings.

The website includes a full list of local employment preparation, job search, career training classes and programs, and tech trainings, officials said

“Amazing people make this City run,” said Mayor Sue Himmelrich. “If you are looking for a job, we want to help connect you to local employers."
