August 19, 2021 -- With local school campuses filling up after a year of virtual classes, the Santa Monica Education Foundation is launching a back-to-school match starting Thursday.

The $25,000 Match from Kilroy Realty offers a "dollar-for-dollar" match for all donations to the Foundation up to $25,000 through the end of the month, officials said.

“We are excited to welcome students back to school with this match,” said Alison Havel, president of the Foundation's Board of Directors.

“Last year was a difficult year for all of our school families, but programs funded by donations to the Ed Foundation are always a bright spot in students’ education."

The donations help ensure "important staff and excellent art and STEM programs are available for students next year," Foundation officials said.

Like all donations to the Foundation, the funds raised during the matching drive directly support elementary instructional aides, elementary arts programs and stretch grants for each Santa Monica public school next year.

"Each school decides how to spend their stretch grant," Foundation officials said. "Many schools use these funds for student wellness, STEM programs, more arts programs and teacher training."

Kilroy Realty has supported students as an Ed Foundation Corporate Hero for four years, officials said.

“Kilroy Realty is committed to creating sustainable communities,” said Philip Tate, the company's senior vice president of Development and Government Affairs.

“Education is key to building vibrant futures and we are thrilled to partner with the Santa Monica Education Foundation to help bring outstanding programs and experiences to all children in Santa Monica public schools.”

Last year, Kilroy's $25,000 back-to-school match raised nearly $250,000 from more than 300 donors ("Education Foundation Raises Nearly $250,000 for Santa Monica Schools," September 11, 2020).
