May 20, 2020 -- The City on Tuesday issued a supplemental emergency order that allows specified appointed boards and commissions to resume limited meetings via teleconference.

The order -- the 16th issued by the City since it declared a coronavirus emergency March 18 -- also caps prices food delivery companies charge restaurants.

Under the order, commissions that have played a part in Santa Monica's ongoing battle over development -- the Planning and Landmarks commissions and Architectural Review Board (ARB) -- began holding meetings on Wednesday.

Other appointed bodies that will meet remotely are the Airport, Arts, Recreation & Parks and Building & Fire-Life Safety Commission, and the Library and Personnel boards.

The Rent Control Board, which is elected by Santa Monica voters, has met three times during the emergency ("Rent Board Sets Annual Adjustment, Explores Freeze," May 20, 2020).

The latest supplemental order also imposes a 15 percent cap on delivery fees and a 5 percent cap on other fees third-party food delivery companies charge restaurants.

That portion of the order -- which goes into effect next Tuesday -- is similar to restrictions imposed by New York, San Francisco and Seattle.
