By Lookout Staff July 8, 2020 -- Santa Monica police have arrested two men and two women suspected of removing a safe from Patagonia during a looting spree in the city's Downtown May 31. Ulises Alcantara Juarez, 25; Alfredo Fernando Bello, 24; Yesenia Enriquez Tejada, 25, and Debbie Lujan, 23, were arrested last Friday and booked for burglary, conspiracy and looting during a riot, police said Wednesday.
The arrests came after detectives from the Special Investigations Unit and officers from the Crime Impact Team served multiple search and arrest warrants at different locations in Los Angeles County related to the incident. Those arrested were among six suspects involved in the looting and theft of the safe at Patagonia at 1344 4th Street during a spree of violence that swept through the Downtown area unchecked for hours . Patagonia was one of 76 stores looted May 31 ("Santa Monica Demonstration Turns Violent, Looters Ransack Stores," June 1, 2020). Damage assessments found that 225 Santa Monica businesses had general damage, such as visible broken windows and doors. There was graffiti damage on 121 buildings and 48 had other "vandalization." Santa Monica police have arrested six other suspects involved in the looting spree that made international headlines and was aired across the globe. Last month, Santa Monica police arrested Amanda Toyono Van Duyse, 31, for burglary, grand theft and burglary during an emergency ("Police Arrest Suspect in May 31 Looting Spree," June 18, 2020). |
