February 10, 2020 -- Three people were extricated from a car that crashed into a building early Sunday morning on Pico Boulevard, fire department officials said.

The three persons were extricated from the car using the jaws of life and cutters and transported to a trauma center in Westwood, said Fire Capt. Eric Himler.

Police officials said the car was driving east bound on Pico at a high rate of speed when it crashed at 12th Street at around 2:45 a.m.

"The car had hit three parking meters, one city streetlight pole, two parkway trees, a fire hydrant and the building," Himler said.

Firefighters found a single car up against a building with three victims trapped, he said.

The water department assisted with the sheared hydrant and the street lighting department handled the streetlight and live electrical wires, Himler said.

The Santa Monica Police Department is conducting the investigation.
