September 24, 2019 -- A homeless man was arrested for attempted murder after beating a victim unconscious shortly after midnight Friday in Downtown Santa Monica.
Jamil Lanier Warren, 28, was booked for attempted murder and is being held on $1 million bail, said Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, the Police Department spokesperson.

The incident took place on the 400 block of Broadway at 12:22 a.m., police said.
"Eyewitnesses had observed the suspect punching and kicking the victim multiple times in the head/face area," Cobarrubias said.
"Another witness observed the suspect use a shovel to strike the victim," she said.
"When officers arrived on scene, the victim was unconscious with severe facial and head trauma." |
The victim was transported to the local hospital, where he is expected to survive, police said.
Detectives called to the scene were able to get an identification on the suspect, Cobarrubias said.
The suspect was found on September 21, in the early morning hours and taken into custody without incident, she said.
