March 27, 2019 -- A man whose escaped through a North of Montana neighborhood after threatening to blow up a jewelry store during a botched robbery was sentenced to two years in state prison Monday.

Robert Art Abalov, 33, of Los Angeles, who was dubbed the “Bomber Robber," was sentenced immediately after pleading no contest to one count of attempted second-degree robbery, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

Abalov was initially charged with six counts for his involvement in a jewelry store robbery on the 1600 block of Montana Avenue on February 28 of last year, police said.

He left after threatening the owner with a "suspicious device" initially thought to be a bomb, dropping the stolen merchandise onn the way out, police said.

Abalov escaped in a vehicle, hitting several parked cars and injuring the occupant of one of the vehicles.

He then fled on foot through the North of Montana Neighborhood, police said ("Suspect Remains at Large after Robbing Montana Avenue Jewelry Store," March 1, 2017).

Police were able to quickly identify the suspect based on evidence collected at the crime scene ("Santa Monica Police Identify Suspect in Jewelry Store Robbery," March 2, 2018).

But it took a three-month-long manhunt before Abalov was arrested by Santa Monica Police in West Los Angles on May 29 ("Santa Monica Police Arrest Montana Avenue Robbery Suspect After Three Month Search," May 31, 2018).
