June 27, 2019 -- More than 170 golfers raised a record of more than $135,000 to help support Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) programs, the organization announced Thursday.

The money was raised at the the 10th annual PAL Charity Golf Classic June 10 at the Mountain Gate Country Club in Los Angeles.

“Santa Monica Police Department and community far exceed expectations each year in support of PAL and the programs that benefit Santa Monica youth,” said Eula Fritz, director of the local PAL chapter.

“Now in its 10th year, the PAL Charity Golf Classic has become our premier event and most successful for the organization, Fritz said. "Our sincere thanks to everyone that participates, sponsors and works on the event each year.”

Many Santa Monica police officers and members of the city's business community turned out to support the event, which included an awards ceremony and silent auction.

Money raised by the tournament directly supports PAL educational initiatives such as post high school educational scholarships through the Chris Carrey PAL Education Fund, PAL officials said.

It also helps support fitness, cultural and technology programs offered to Santa Monica youth at the PAL Youth Center and Fitness Gym.

Frank Buckley, co-anchor of KTLA Morning News, participated in the tournament and Kacey Montoya, a reporter at KTLA, was the emcee at the awards banquet.

The winning golf team was composed of Matt Barzman, Jeff Wells, Craig Currie and Jeffrey Wells.
