July 15, 2019 -- A Santa Monica police officer shot and wounded a man who ran toward a group of officers responding to a call near 10th Street and Pacific Avenue early Sunday morning, according to police.

Wolfgang Mountford, a 29-year old white male from Van Nuys, was arrested for resisting an officer with force/violence, police said.

Mountford, who was shot one time in the head, was transported to a local hospital and later released, said Lt. Saul Rodriguez, a police department spokesman.

The incident took place on the 2000 block of Lincoln Court after police responded to several calls shortly after 2 a.m. reporting a disturbance, Rodriguez said.

Officers had handled a call earlier that morning reporting a similar incident involving Mountford, he said.

The callers reported that Mounteford was "yelling loudly, throwing trash cans around and trying to open car doors," Rodriguez said.

"As the officers exited their vehicle, the subject ran towards one of the officers," he said.

"An encounter ensued between the subject and one of the officers," Rodriguez said. "During the encounter, the subject was struck by a single gunshot fired by the officer."

Officers immediately rendered medical aid to Mountford, and Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics responded and treated him at the scene, he said.

Mountford was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, where he was treated and later released, Rodriguez said.

After the incident, Mountford posted several entries and a video on his Facebook page.

"Santa Monica Police Dept Assaulted me at around 2:00 am this morning," he wrote. "They hit me with something really hard on the back of my head and left a gash, to where I needed to get 2 layers of stitches and 10 Staples just to close the wound!" Wolfie Black

Earlier he posted the following entry:

"They spilt so much of my blood this morning and now they're gonna arrest me in the hospital WITHOUT telling me my charges! I'm in the bathroom right now posting these before they take me away.

"I want everyone to see some of what I look like before I go into the police Dept, so that way if I'm insulted again everyone will see, please help me call whoever you can this isn't right what's going on."

On his Facebook page Mountford writes under the heading "A Little About Myself:"

"I'm a Musician, Singer, and Author in Progress. I like Strange Things and Weird People."

SMPD's Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident, police said.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Officer Involved Shooting Response Team was notified and responded for an independent investigation, Rodriguez said.

SMPD has launched a concurrent administrative investigation in accordance with its policy for an officer involved shooting, he said.

Mountford was booked at the Santa Monica Jail, police said. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Airport Branch for filing consideration.
