December 10, 2019 -- An unprovoked attack on an elderly man on Saturday came three weeks after an elderly woman was brutally assaulted in another Santa Monica neighborhood by a different suspect.

The attacks have prompted police to seek "the public’s help in identifying any additional victims of similar assaults," according to a Police Department press release Tuesday.

The suspects in both attacks -- one in Downtown, the other in Ocean Park -- have been arrested, police said.
Kenneth Jordan Wilburn

Last month's attack took place at approximately 6 p.m. on November 16 on a sidewalk on the 2100 block of 7th Street in Ocean Park, police said.

The victim was followed while walking home from a local grocery store, said Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, the Police Department spokesperson.

"Once the woman was off the main street, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind, took her to the ground and began to violently strangle her causing her to lose consciousness multiple times during the attack," Cobarrubias said.

"A random car driving by caused the suspect to stop his attack and flee," she said.

Police conducted a thorough canvas of the neighborhood and reviewed surveillance videos from the area, leading the Criminal Investigations Division to identify the suspect as Kenneth Jordan Wilburn, 28, of Sacramento.

Wilburn was taken into custody last Tuesday by Santa Monica with the assistance of Sacramento Police Department, Cobarrubias said.

He is being held on $60,000 bail in Sacramento and will be transported back to Los Angeles for the court proceedings, she said.

The attack came three weeks before an elderly man was randomly assaulted Saturday afternoon on the 1100 block of 7th Street near Reed Park ("Elderly Man Victim of Unprovoked Assault Downtown," December 9, 2019).

Police did nor release the suspect's name saying he may be involved in other crimes being investigated.

Anyone with information on last month's attack should call Detective Nicole Murphy at 310-458-8941 or the Watch Commander at 310-458-8427.
