December 3, 2019 -- A suspect arrested Friday for a stabbing that took place on Santa Monica Beach earlier this year was released Tuesday after prosecutors requested further investigation of the case.
Rimone Hodges, 29, was arrested for attempted murder in the stabbing that took place around 6:15 a.m. on April 8 near Perry's Cafe on the 2400 block of Ocean Front Walk in Ocean Park.
Hodges and his victim, both homeless, were involved in a physical altercation, said Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, the Police Department spokesperson.
"The suspect pulled out a knife during the fight and stabbed the victim in the abdomen area several times," Cobarrubias said.
"When officers arrived on scene the suspect and his friends had fled the location," she said.
Responding officers provided medical attention to the victim, who was transported to a hospital.
He was treated and survived his injuries, Cobarrubias said.
Police in Pomona located Hodges after Santa Monica detectives identified the suspect and placed a wanted notice in the system, she said.
Santa Monica police took Hodges into custody for attempted murder on Friday and presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for prosecution on Tuesday, Cobarrubias said.
"There is a request for more investigative follow up," she said.
"The individual arrested has been released pending the outcome of the follow up."
