August 26, 2019 -- A man fatally shot his 19-year-old brother on Santa Monica's north side Sunday evening, marking the second homicide in the beach city this year and the second involving a family member.

The incident took place at around 6:25 p.m. inside a home on the 900 block of Lincoln Boulevard where the two brothers were living with their parents, police said.

The brothers were engaged in a dispute when one shot and killed the other, according to Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, the Police Department spokesperson.

The victim has been identified as Charles Edward Mondev, 19, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. He was was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Police are treating the incident as a homicide, Cobarrubias said.

The fatal shooting comes seven months after a 42-year-old man was arrested for fatally stabbing his mother and stabbing his father in their Sunset Park home in January ("Woman Fatally Stabbed in Sunset Park, Son in Custody," January 24, 2019)..

Stephen Lloyd Fader of Brentwood was charged with stabbing Howard Fader, 82, and Sharon Fader, 75, multiple times on or between January 23 and 24 inside a single-family home in the 1200 block of Sunset Avenue .

Sharon Fader was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

Both the suspect and his father were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for stab wounds, police said.

The son pleaded not guilty ("Man Pleads Not Guilty of Stabbing Mother to Death in Santa Monica Home," February 20, 2019).

Another family killing in Santa Monica grabbed international headlines in June 2013.

On June 7, John Zawahri went on a killing spree after shooting his father, Samir Zawahri, 55, and his brother Christopher Zawahri, 24, inside their home near what is now Gandara Park.

After killing his father and brother, the gunman carjacked a woman near the murder scene and went on a killing rampage that left six dead and four injured.

The killings ended on the Santa Monica College campus when police cornered Zawahri inside the college library and shot him to death ("Four Victims, Gunman Killed in Santa Monica Shooting Spree," June 7, 2013).
