April 12, 2019 -- A man jumped to his death from a public parking structure in Downtown Santa Monica early Friday morning, marking the third such suicide in less than a year.

The man, who was in his 30s or 40s, jumped from the top floor of Parking Structure 7 at Santa Monica Place around 12:30 a.m., police said.

"Witnesses stated they saw the individual standing on the ledge before jumping," said Lt. Saul Rodriguez, the Police Department spokesman.

The man jumped from the 4th street side of the structure, which is at the corner of 4th Street and Broadway, he said.

There was no evidence of foul play, Rodriguez said.

Friday's incident marks the third time a suicide takes place at one of Santa Monica's eight public parking structures Downtown since last summer.

On September 5, a man was decapitated by the rope he used to hang himself in Parking Structure 4 on the 1300 block of Second Street.

Several witnesses said they saw the man jump from the seventh floor of of the structure flanking the Third Street Promenade at around 12:40 p.m.

On December 1, a woman in her 60s also committed suicide by jumping off the same structure.

Another suicide took place at the Pier early last year.

On March 9, a man jumped into the ocean after conducting what appeared to be a ritual shortly before midnight ("Man Who Jumped from Santa Monica Pier Identified, Ruled a Suicide," March 12, 2018).

Police found no foul play in any of the incidents.
