December 19, 2016 -- Puerto Rican entertainment legend Chita Rivera will present a solo concert at The Broad Stage at Santa Monica College (SMC) in February, theater officials announced last week.

The Tony Award winner will "recreate signature moments from her legendary career including numbers from 'West Side Story,' 'Sweet Charity Chicago,' 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' 'Bye, Bye, Birdie, 'The Rink' and 'The Visit,'" event organizers said.

"Chita: A Legendary Celebration" -- on Friday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. -- will pay special tribute to John Kander and Fred Ebb and feature compositions by Leonard Bernstein, Charles Strouse, Jerry Herman and Stephen Sondheim, organizers said.

Rivera, who has won two Tony's and been nominated for the stage's biggest award ten times, will be accompanied by her trio. She was awarded The Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009, becoming the first Hispanic woman to receive the award.

Her show this year at Carnegie Hall garnered rave reviews.

“Chita Rivera has a gleam in her eye, a smirk on her lips and a bounce in her step," The New York Times wrote. "You leave this show walking on air!”

The Associated Press said, “Chita Rivera is more than a musical theatre star. She’s a force of nature.”

Rivera burst onto the Broadway scene in September 26, 1957 playing the role of Anita in the Broadway premiere of "West Side Story" and returned to Broadway to star as Rosie with Dick Van Dyke in the musical, "Bye Bye Birdie," earning a Tony nomination as Best Actress.

In 1975 she starred in "Chicago," directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, receiving another Tony nomination for Best Actress, and starred in a string of other Broadway hits. Her current solo CD is entitled "And Now I Swing."

Last year, Rivera was the subject of the PBS Great Performances special "Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin’ To Do," a retrospective of her life and career.

Tickets are on sale at online at www.thebroadstage.com and by calling 310-434-3200.
