Santa Monica Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard, will feature “A Window Into My World,” a free exhibit of photographs and creative writing by local teens.

The display is open Saturday, December 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, December 13, from 1 to 5 p.m., and through December 17. For hours visit smpl.org.

The exhibition is the culmination of a three-part photography and creative writing workshop teens participated in last month, said Ivy Weston, the library's teen services supervisor.

During the “A Window into My World” workshop, professional photographer and writer Grace Singh Smith taught the teens professional photography techniques.

Teens were then given two weeks to take photos inspired by three themes: “Where I Like to Read,” “My Community,” and “Who I Am,” said Weston.

“The teens then critiqued one another's photos, and each teen wrote a piece to accompany one of his/her own photos, and one of a classmate's photos,” she said.

“A Window into My World” is being held to commemorate the Santa Monica Public Library’s 125th anniversary. The workshops and exhibition are made possible by the Friends of Santa Monica Public Library.

Also this Saturday, December 12, at the library, Charlotte Rae, the original house mother from “The Facts of Life,” presents, “The Facts of Life,” discussing her new autobiography co-written with her son, Larry Strauss.

A book-signing immediately follows the “Author Talks” presentation, which is from 3 to 5 p.m.

This event requires tickets. Free tickets will be handed out one hour prior to the presentation.
