By Jason Islas July 9, 2013 -- Police have arrested two men suspected of attempted murder after a midnight scuffle near a Santa Monica sports bar left one man with a stab wound in his neck. When police arrived, they found the victim sitting in front of an auto dealer down the street from Busby's, a local sports bar at 3110 Santa Monica Boulevard. The victim was holding a shirt to his neck to stem the bleeding. According to a report filed by investigators, the victim was heading to Busby's with a group when they were stopped by two couples. The two men, each standing with a woman, were identified as twin brothers, Anthony and Conrad Sowash. One of the women asked for a cigarette and someone from the group obliged her, the police report says. That's when the trouble began. “Before walking away, one of the males (suspect #2) asked the group where they were from,” the report says. One member of the group said that they were from somewhere in the San Fernando Valley, an answer which did not sit well with the suspects. “Suspect #2 then suddenly and without provocation, punched the victim in the face,” the report reads. “Suspect #1 then pulled out a 4-6 (inch) knife and challenged the group as suspect #2 proceeded to punch another victim in the face.” The group began to flee while the two men pursued one of the victims across Santa Monica Boulevard, ending up on the north side of the street. The report says that it was there when the suspect slashed the victim's neck. “The victim turned towards the suspect to defend himself and suffered a second slash to his neck, before pushing the suspect away,” the report says. The two male suspects fled, leaving the two women behind. They tried to get into a car to leave but were blocked by one of the members of the group. “The two females then attacked the male victim and struck him with an unknown type chain,” the report says. “Both were detained as officers arrived.” The two women, in their early 20s, are charged with assault and battery. The 28-year-old twin Sowash brothers, both suspected of attempted murder, were arrested shortly after police arrived. “As officers broadcasted the suspect’s descriptions on the radio,” the report says, “additional officers responding to the scene, detained them in the alley behind 3000 Santa Monica Boulevard.” One of the suspects had blood on his hands. The stabbing victim was sent to the hospital in stable but serious condition, according to police. He is expected to make a full recovery. |
