Free Children's Concert Kicks off at Santa Monica Pier Saturday

September 6, 2012 -- Kids will have their own free concerts on the Santa Monica Pier when Wake Up with the Waves Kicks off its sixth year Saturday.

The concert series -- held every Saturday morning through November 3 -- gives children between the ages and 1 and 8 and their parents a chance to enjoy free interactive concerts and activities that include singing, dancing and movement, puppets, talent shows, dress-up, face-painting, prizes and bubbles.

The series will once again be produced by Michael Cladis, who is partnering with local co-producer Green Brooms Music Academy this year.

“Either kids can hang out in front of the TV on Saturday morning, or they can kids get active, involved, and maybe even inspired,” says S. Jay Farrand, the Pier's administrator.

“It’s a great way to start the day with some fresh-air, and then you’ve got all the family fun of the Pier’s amusements, rides and restaurants afterwards.”

The series was rebranded this year after organizers were inspired by the blocky children's work of Ray and Charles Eames.

"This concept uses poppy sea-themed graphics in a duo-tone treatment that's easy for children to identify, coupled with action verbs that reinforce the interactive nature of the concert series," concert organizers said.

All concerts are held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more information on these shows and all activities at the Santa Monica Pier, please call (310) 458-8900 or visit http://www.WakeUpWithTheWaves.com
