By Lookout Staff

July 17, 2012 -- Santa Monica police are searching for suspects in two crimes this week after a homeless man survived a stabbing and a woman was killed by a hit-and-driver.

Just after midnight Monday morning, a 30-year-old Santa Monica woman crossing Wilshire Boulevard at 21st Street was hit by a black or charcoal gray sedan.

On Tuesday, shortly before 6 a.m., a homeless man sleeping on a bus stop bench in Downtown Santa Monica was stabbed with a large knife by a yet-unidentified assailant.

With no suspects in custody, the police are looking for anyone who may have information about either crime.

According to witnesses, the suspect involved in the hit-and-run drove west on Wilshire Boulevard until the driver turned north on 15th Street then headed east on California Avenue.

“As a result of the collision, the victim was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” police said.

Police are looking for what might be a Toyota sedan with body damage to the hood, the front grill and the driver’s side headlight.

As of press time, no witnesses had come forward with information about the stabbing of a 50-year-old homeless man while he slept at a bus stop on Santa Monica Boulevard Downtown.

According to police, the victim was found by a passerby when he asked for help. The police recovered “a large knife.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the hit -and-run to contact Investigators Chris Dawson or Jason Olson at 310.458.8954 or Sergeant Phillbo Rubish at 310.458.8950.

Anyone with information about the stabbing should call Detective Goodwin at 310.458.8942 or Detective Sumlin at 310.458.8437.

For information regarding either crime, people can call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310.458.8495
