December 7, 2012 -- Santa Claus has been cleared for landing at the Santa Monica Airport Sunday afternoon assuming there is no heavy snow in the forecast.
Mr. Claus, aka Kris Kringle, will be flying a vintage World War II bi-plan after filing a flight plan that marks the estimated time of arrival as 1:30 p.m. “depending on weather,” according to air traffic control at the Museum of Flying.
“The estimated time of arrival is 1:30 pm depending on weather. The pilot has requested to land at the Santa Monica Airport and taxi to the aircraft ramp across the street from the Museum of Flying,” authorities said.
“The aircraft has been described as a Boeing Stearman with a US Navy paint scheme,” according to museum sources. “The pilot will be wearing a red flight suit.”
Mr Claus is scheduled to “exit the aircraft and walk across the street and enter the Museum,” authorities said. “He will be available during the afternoon for photos.”
A source familiar with the flight documents said, “We are told that his cargo is a large volume of candy canes.”
Guests wishing to witness the arrival of Mr. Claus, are encouraged to show up early. Visitors are advised to stand along Airport Avenue across from the Museum for the arrival.
Admission to the Museum is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/students and $6 for children aged 6 to 12. Admission is free for children 5. As always, this event is free for members.
The Museum of Flying is open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m. The Museum of Flying is located on the Santa Monica Airport at 3100 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90405. For more information please call the Museum at 310-398-2500.
