|Saint John's Play Date in Santa Monica|
By Lookout Staff
January 25, 2011 -- Children of all ages will be sure to enjoy Saint John's Health Center's first annual PLAY DATE, a fundraiser for its Child and Family Development Center (CFDC).
Tennis shoes and jeans are the dress code for an evening of play for all. Basketball hoop-shoots, putt putt golf and arcade games will appeal to the young-at-heart while those who want to act more mature can enjoy dancing and wine-tasting, and everyone can savor “gourmet kid food.”
Proceeds will shore up CFDC's budget, which has been hit hard by the state's financial crisis. The center serves families and children “at risk for child maltreatment.”
"Your support and acknowledgement with my tricky infant was a real blessing,” one mother served by the center said.
“I always felt respected, seen and cared about by you, whether you were listening to me share trying times about my relationship, teaching me how to parent or using resources to better my situation,” she said.
“In short, I feel like you believed in me as a client."
She was served by the “Partnerships for Families” program, which will lose its funding this July. It's one of a number of CFDC programs in jeopardy.
That's why the Irene Dunne Guild, one of health center's support groups, is hosting the evening fundraiser.
The CFDC matches families with teams of health professionals that include social workers, psychologists, teachers and educational, occupational and speech therapists. They're known for working sensitively with families from all walks of life.
The PLAY DATE will be held from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5 at Sports Club/L.A. at 1835 Sepulveda Boulevard in West Los Angeles.
