|Santa Monica's Sustainability Website Wins Award|
By Lookout Staff
September 28, 2010 -- Santa Monica's Sustainability website has been recognized by the National Marketing Association as one of the industry's best designed.
The City and its consultant, PMC, won the Outstanding Achievement in Web Development award for their work on the City of Santa Monica Office of Sustainability and the Environment website sustainablesm.org.
“The new site is packed with great information on the city’s sustainability programs, community events and much more,” said Andrew Basmajian, environmental outreach coordinator for the Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
“The constant challenge is to present a large amount of information in both an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly way for all users, including policy makers. We’re honored to have won an award for the effort.”
The newly redesigned site -- which is an environmental resource for residents, businesses, tourists and government -- was given an updated look. It features an innovative City Services Directory that slides up from the bottom of the screen to reveal frequently asked questions and a directory of city contacts by department, by item or alphabetically.
"The site is user-friendly and well organized, featuring both the sustainable resources that the city has to offer and an educational component for the community," Basmajian said.
PMC also was recognized by the Web Marketing Association for its work on the site.
Founded in 1997, the Web Marketing Association helps set a high standard for Internet marketing and development of the best websites on the World Wide Web. Staffed by volunteers, it is made up of industry professionals who share an interest in improving the quality of online advertising, internet marketing, and website promotion.
