Police Chase Ends at Santa Monica Pier
By Lookout Staff

May 4, 2010--A multi-City police pursuit concluded with a man jumping off the Santa Monica Pier into the ocean in the early hours of Sunday morning. Gerjuan Harmon, 27, eventually returned to shore, and surrendered to Los Angeles Police Department officers.

The pursuit began at about 11:30 p.m. when the LAPD received reports of a man driving drunk in a 2010 Range Rover. The vehicle was believed to be one reported stolen two weeks earlier. Harmon did not pull over when requested to do so by LAPD officers.

The pursuit continued through various areas on the Westside, including the streets of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, as well as the I-10 Freeway.

According to the LAPD, at one point Harmon called 9-1-1 and asked why he was being chased. He also told the operator that he was suicidal.

When Harmon reached the end of the road in Santa Monica, he got out of the vehicle and ran onto the pier before taking his dive. He was eventually persuaded by LAPD and Santa Monica Police Department officers to come to shore at about 1:40 a.m.

Harmon is currently being held for felony evading at a Van Nuys jail, an LAPD spokesperson said. This is the fourth arrest for Harmon this year, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Information Center
