Chili Cook-Off Part of Daylong Festivities

March 26, 2010 -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica will host an inaugural Chili Cook-Off on Saturday. It will be the feature event of the daylong Family Festival.

The chili contest will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Contestants will compete for prizes, including a one-night stay at the Marriot Marina del Rey hotel, unlimited ride wristbands to Pacific Park and a $50 Target Gift Card. Those wanting to enter the competition should contact Tammy Ito at tammy@smbgc.org.

The festival will begin at 9 a.m. with the Biddy Classic Basketball Tournament, which will take place throughout the day. There will also be a free barbecue lunch. Other activities will include Kids vs. Parents Challenges in the Gamesroom (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.), Tech and Media (11 a.m. to 12 p.m.), a college fair for teens (12 p.m. to 3 p.m.), family quilt making (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.), skating at the Skate Park (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and playfield activities from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival will begin at 9 a.m. with the Biddy Classic Basketball Tournament, which will take place throughout the day.

 

The day of activities will conclude with an outdoor movie screening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the playfield. Popcorn, cotton candy and other refreshments will be provided.

The event is being put on to celebrate National Boys & Girls Clubs Week. According to the Santa Monica Clubs, the activities emphasize “the importance and value of the Clubs to the Santa Monica community.
