Enjoy Helping Local Schools

By Lookout Staff

July 21, 2010 -- You can help “Save Our Schools” and have some fun while you’re at it with a full slate of activities and events as the campaign enters its final month.

The Education Foundation campaign has raised more than $750,000 to help restore class size and core academic programs lost to State funding cuts, which have totaled some $30 million over the past three years.

The City Council this month voted to place a half-cent sales tax measure on the November 2 ballot that could send half of the $13 million it would generate to the School District.

“Save Our Schools” campaign volunteers have developed key community partnerships and turned traditional summer activities into ways to celebrate summer and support our Santa Monica-Malibu schools at the same time.

They include a Summer Concert July 25, a Summer Party July 30, as well as readings, movies, dining and a picnic.

“Every event attended and every partner merchant purchase brings critically needed funds back into our local schools,” Foundation officials said. “Summer of Fun activities will help lower class size and restore counseling, library and music programs.”
