Santa Monica College Presents an Evening of Student Films

By Lookout Staff

December 13 -- Santa Monica College film students will showcase a semester's length of creative work Friday evening.

Produced by members of the SMC Student Filmmakers Association (Film Club) and by students in Film Studies 32 (Advanced Digital Filmmaking) classes, the screening will take place at 6 p.m. in Room 214 of the SMC Art Complex on the main campus.

"With short films ranging across all genres, this bi-annual public exhibition of SMC student film work offers a wide diversity of filmmaking visions and voices representing SMC's eclectic mix of national origins and ethnicities," SMC officials said.

Club films are made on shoestring budgets financed by the students and are mostly shot on digital video and edited on home computer systems.

"Some of the club's members are also Film Studies majors at SMC, and many have aspirations to go on to more advanced study at major film schools such as UCLA and USC," school officials said.

Some of the club's filmmakers hope to work professionally in the motion picture industry as writers, directors, and producers.

The evening of SMC student films is sponsored by the SMC Communication Department in association with the Student Filmmakers Association.

The event and parking are free. Seating is limited and is on a first-arrival basis.
