October 30, 2009 -- The fourth suspect in the 2008 brutal beating death of 49-year-old Preston Brumfield was arrested on Sunday after more than a week on the run.
Jason Eddie Coleman, 27, was arrested by Los Angeles Police Department officers. He was transferred to the Santa Monica Police Department, where he was booked for the homicide and on two warrants for narcotics possession.
The other three suspects in the murder case – Sammy Murphy, 50; Gwindon Love Murphy, 65 and Jason Anthony Hurtado, 26 – were arrested earlier this month following a year-and-a-half SMPD investigation of the Graveyard Crips gang.
The four suspects have pleaded not guilty to the homicide charges. They are due to appear in court again on Nov. 5.
The SMPD’s investigation, which included wiretaps, also led to several arrests regarding narcotics trafficking. For more on the investigation, see
