October 1, 2009 -- Santa Monica Police Department investigators are looking for suspects in two recent incidents of violence involving teenagers.

There was a stabbing last Friday outside Santa Monica College’s Corsair Field following a Santa Monica High School football game. And a shooting occurred on Virginia Avenue on Saturday.

The victims in both incidents were 17 years old and neither received life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Jay Trisler of the SMPD. There are no suspects in either case.

The shooting victim, a Santa Monica resident, called police Saturday evening from nearby Stewart Street to say he had been shot at the 2900 block of Virginia Avenue. He described the shooter as a Hispanic male wearing a black shirt.

“Somebody came running up at him and fired a firearm at him, resulting in a non-threatening injury,” said Trisler, who would not describe the injury because he said that was a key component to the investigation.

The victim said he did not know the shooter, nor did he know why anybody would want to shoot him.

The victim of the stabbing incident is a Hispanic male who lives in Inglewood. The crime occurred at 9:43 p.m. as people left the Santa Monica High/Venice High School football game.

Tisler said it is not known how many people were involved in the stabbing or what instrument was used.

“We have no suspects,” Tisler said. “Nobody is in custody.”

He added that investigators so far have no leads.

Anybody with information about the stabbing should contact Investigator Hee Seok Han at 310.458.8452 or Sgt. Ira Routan at 310.458.8959. Those with knowledge regarding the shooting should contact Investigator Maury Sumlin at 310-458-8437 or Routan.
