November
25, 2009 -- City officials are in negotiations
with a candidate to replace outgoing City Manager P. Lamont
Ewell, consultant Lisa Mills told the Lookout News on Tuesday.
City Council members tentatively selected the candidate
after interviewing the person for a second time during a
closed session meeting on Friday. This person was interviewed
along with five other candidates earlier this month.
Mills said the City expects to have a contract finalized
with the candidate prior to the December 8 council meeting.
The council will vote on the contract at that meeting.
Ewell announced in August his intention to retire at the
end of the year.
The man who is credited with putting Santa Monica on a
strong financial footing during tough economic times said
he wanted to end his 34 years of public service on "the
high note of serving the Santa Monica community," according
to a statement released by his office.
