April 28 – Police have released a sketch of the man suspected of opening fire last week on three women standing behind an apartment building in an ocean-view neighborhood in Santa Monica’s pricey north side.
The suspect -- described as a male in his mid 20s, 5'10” to 6' tall and approximately 180 pounds -- wounded two of the women, who were taken to local hospitals, police said.

The victims were standing “to the rear” of the building at 135 San Vicente Boulevard with a third woman when a man fired several shots at them at around 9:25 p.m. Friday, police said.
Two passing physicians who heard the shots provided immediate medical care until paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department arrived, police said. |
Police believe the victims may have been targeted “as a result of previous incidents in which they were involved,” said Lt. Daniel Salerno.
The suspect -- who was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts and may have facial hair -- fled east on foot, police said. No vehicle was seen, and the suspect is still at large.
